On 29 March 2011 a number of development partners including VVOB, supported the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in organizing the workshop “Sharing experiences and strengthening co-operation on climate change education”.

Seeking to strengthen co-operation to implement the Education Sector’s Response to the National Targeted Program on Climate Change, participating organizations shared and showcased practical experiences that could contribute to this endeavor. Experiences were drawn from interventions in different educational sub-sectors, from primary to tertiary, delivered in both formal and non-formal settings.

Opening remarks delivered by UNESCO’s Assisant-Director General for Education Dr. Qian Tang, demonstrated the high-level international support this initiative received, also urging the Ministry of Education and Training to address Climate Change Education in the wider and interrelated contexts of Education for Sustainable Development, Disaster Risk Reduction Education and Education in Emergencies. This issue was repeatedly raised and addressed by the participating organizations. Broad participation of different departments of the MOET, as well as other Ministries such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), allowed to bring the necessary partners together facilitating such an inclusive approach.

The presentation of the VVOB experience, which related to our Environmental Education Basic Course, was presented by one of our partners, Dr. Nguyen Van Hien of the Hanoi National University of Education. He was one of the facilitors of a Training-of-Trainers session in 2010. His presentation is added to this news item.
