Since 2010, 5 Teacher Training Institutes (TTIs), assisted by VVOB, have prepared and implemented Educational Innovation Plan (EIP). As planned, a meeting for EIP steering committee was held on July 19, 2011 in Thai Nguyen to evaluate the ongoing EIP and prepare for the new plan. Attending the meeting were 24 members of EIP steering committee of five Teacher Training Institute.
At the beginning of the meeting, the participants shared experiences in implementing the EIP. Different from the last Steering Committee Meeting (where the participants expressed more difficulties in implementing the Plan), in this meeting, the participants shared best practice such as the combination of trained modules in the multiplication trainings of Environmental Education, Methodology and ICT; the combined use of students’ evaluation checklist and the lecturers’ teaching curriculum to evaluate the lecturers’ application of ICT and methodology for recommendation for further professional development; Open lessons with new methodologies applied where peers can come for observation, students’ participating in writing papers for TTI scientific workshops, etc. The participants also discussed the intervention on practice schools and M&E framework.
In order to support the TTIs to develop better EIP vision and missions, VVOB invited an external expert, Mr Le Hoang Quan. He gave the guidance on developing the vision and mission of the EIP with the illustrating example of La Trobe University’s vision and missions. He advised the TTI to focus on the human rersource development with 3H change (head, heart, hands).
VVOB also shared the budget for the school year 2011-2012 with some guidelines.
The meeting came to conclusions that the EIP planning and implementation as well as the M&E are of great necessary. Technically, EIP vision and missions should be short and concrete, reflecting the TTI’s directions. EIP’s activities should reflect the TTI’s vision. In terms of practice school, professional development for practice school teachers is of great significance in supporting pre-service teachers. As planned, there will be trainings for school teachers in practice schools in upcoming September and October.
