In the VVOB Vietnam program gender is a cross cutting theme which should receive more attention over the coming years. As an alternative for a gender training course for VVOB Vietnam staff, the gender focal point person selected a consultant to analyze the present programme.

The consultant prepared a report on his findings, including recommendations for the present and the future programme of VVOB Vietnam. The debriefing on this analysis was the main input for one day training on gender.

The debriefing which took place on 16 April 2013 had as main objectives:

  • Build common understanding of VVOB Viet Nam team on basic gender concepts, gender analysis and gender mainstreaming.
  • Reach agreement on key gender issues of VVOB Vietnam and on recommendations provided by gender review
  • Develop the gender mainstreaming checklists for education program and VVOB Vietnam as an organization
  • Decide on follow up action to ensure gender mainstreaming in education program.

The first activity of the day was to become a bit more familiar with gender related vocabulary and concepts. This rather straightforward activity started a day of interesting discussions about gender concepts, gender issues in education in Viet Nam, the key findings of the gender review of the present programme, gender issues in VVOB Viet Nam as an organization and in the education program. In the afternoon it was discussed how to mainstream gender in the present and next programme and some tools were addressed.
