On 22 and 23 April 2011, a 2-day workshop on “Innovative leadership” was organized for senior management of VVOB’s 3 main partners: Departments of Education and Training (DOETs), teacher training institutes and provincial Women’s Unions (WUs). In total, 34 management representatives participated in the workshop which took place in Da Nang.

The training workshop aimed to strengthen a number of planning and management skills, applied to the specific context of the partners’ plans and practices, both in their cooperation with VVOB and beyond.

VVOB cooperated with the Asian Management and Development Institute in organizing the workshop and business management skills trainer Mr. Le Hoang Quan facilitated parts of the workshop, in addition to the VVOB coordinators.

While the workshop consisted of a number of common sessions for the three different partner groups, they also convened separately on some specific issues. Everyone joined sessions on vision development and planning skills. The teacher training institutes and women’s union participated together in a session on change management.

Afterwards, each partner had separate tailor-made sessions. The WUs together with the VVOB coordinator addressed the application of planning and M&E skills by integrating the 4 indicators of the VVOB M&E framework into their the current Provincial Social Participation Plans.

Similarly, M&E was also a major issue to address for the participants from DOETs. They discussed their internal planning from the perspective of the 4 indicators of the VVOB M&E framework. DOET participants even stayed for an additional half day to discuss the Open Resource Centres they are developing and strenghtening in cooperation with VVOB.

Management of the teacher training institutes continued to work with Mr. Quan in sessions on building of leadership capacities, leadership for effective school and staff development, and meeting facilitation skills.
