On January 14, 2014, VVOB Country Programme Manager, Dr. Wilfried Theunis, was honourably presented with the medal for the cause of education by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam for his significant contribution to Vietnam’s education and training sector.

MOET delegations, headed by Dr. Hoang Duc Minh, Director of Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators (DTEA), on behalf of the Minister, conferred the medal for the Cause of Education to Dr. Wilfried Theunis for his accomplishments on the occasion of his end of mission in Vietnam before Dr. Wilfried heads to South Africa for a new mission.

At the ceremony, Dr. Wilfried reviewed the collaboration between VVOB and MOET during his tenure and gladly remarked that VVOB had achieved more success than expected for the past six years. He later took the opportunity to introduce the new programme of VVOB for the next three years.

From what has been achieved to date, VVOB will continue to focus on capacity development in planning, resource development, networking, and monitoring and evaluation. This aligns with Vietnamese Government’s policies while meeting the local needs.

What’s new in the programme of VVOB is the development of Early Education, with focus on active teaching and learning plus the transition for school readiness between kindergartens and primary schools.
Meanwhile, the Career Guidance programme will be implemented with a student-centred and gender-sensitive approach with regards to the demand of the labourmarket and community education development.

Dr. Hoang Duc Minh, Director of DTEA of MOET, highly valued VVOB’s achievements in general and Dr. Wilfried’s contribution in particular to the education and training sector of Vietnam.

VVOB activities, headed by Dr. Wilfried, have been highly relevant and beneficial for the implementation of the comprehensive and fundamental renovation in Vietnam’s education.

Though transferring to a new position, it is hoped that Dr. Wilfried will continue to be able to support the development of Vietnam’s education.
