On Saturday 27 November, VVOB organized a workshop to plan the activities of the education programme for 2011, at the Army Hotel in Hanoi. 2011 marks the first year of the second phase of VVOB’s education programme 2008-2013 in Vietnam.

For that reason, the workshop was not limited to merely planning of the detailed activities for 2011. The participants also looked back to the achievements and lessons learned during the first years of the programme, and at the same time paid attention to the phasing of activities during the remaining three years of the programme.

Fifty representatives of VVOB’s partner institutes and agencies (Teacher Training Institutes, Departments of Education and Training and Women’s Union representations from the provinces Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai), complemented with participants from provincial Departments of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training and the press participated in the workshop. Vice-Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien of Education and Training honored the participants with his presence. He personally wanted to learn what the activities of VVOB and its partners could contribute to the plans and the activities of the Ministry. For that reason, he participated in some sessions of the workshop during the morning and the afternoon.

During three subsequently organized panel discussions, moderated by VVOB coordinators, representatives from the three principal partners looked into lessons learned from the past three years from the perspective of achievements, sustainability but also intra- and inter-provincial cooperation and coordination. The dynamic and synergies that emerged between the different partners was one of the main achievements recognized by all partners. Also, the alignment with and supportive nature of VVOB interventions to the priorities of the partners was lauded as one of the main achievements.

After the panel discussion, Dr. Truong Dinh Mau, vice-director of the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators, and Dr. Nguyen Vinh Hien, Vice-Minister of Education and Training took the floor to share their thoughts and remarks. The Excellency stressed the importance of teaching practice in the context of capacity building of teachers and also requested VVOB and its partners to consider the sustainability of the results the programme will achieve. He is looking forward to closer cooperation between the Ministry and VVOB during the coming three years.

During the afternoon, there was further discussion about the approach of the programme during the second phase from 2011 to 2013 and the different training modules that are and will be produced under the different result areas. This discussion further built on the phase two planning workshop which has been organized in June 2010 (see a previous news item).
Afterwards, different partners split up in groups and discussed the phasing of the activities with a particular focus on 2011. A carousel, where the different partners shared the results of their discussion, concluded the workshop.
