Today the parents and caregivers, especially those living in rural, isolated and marginalized areashave limited knowledge on child upbringing. They focus on rearing mostly, ignoring other aspects of comprehensive development. It is important to provide them with updated knowledge and skills relating to child education.
In recent years Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has been cooperating with VVOB Vietnam to promote the movement "Child-friendly school and Active students" (launched by Vietnam Ministry of Education in 2008) through the establishment of “Education and Life” club model in 5 program provinces (Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai). The goal is to equip the parents and caregivers with updated knowledge and innovative methodologies so they can help adolescents to be proactive in learning and to respond to life challenges.
VWU in collaboration with VVOB Vietnam developed a club manual on 12 topics relating to adolescent education. The aim was to link the “Education and Life” club model with National Programme No.704 “Capacity building of 5 millions mothers” which is implemented in 14 pilot provinces. The manual will be used nation-wide for both programs as an official resource for ToTs at different levels.
The manual targets WU’s members, club leaders as well as development actors at the grassroots level. The enclosed set of CDs (in MP3 format) will be used to broadcast through the commune loud speakers for school and community outreach.
