In the period of three days, July 14-16, 2011, a TOT workshop on Facilitation Skills and Peer Coaching was organized in Da Nang for the core group of 36 educational managers and teachers from the five DOETs.

The training manual for the workshop is the manual Facilitation Skills and Peer Coaching which has been developed by TT team (with consultation with EM) since the beginning of the year. A similar TOT workshop was organized for the core group from TTIs in June, 2011. Both workshops aimed at introducing the developed module to the core group as well as get feedback from them to finalize the material.

The participatory approach was clearly emphasized in the process of the training workshop. During the course of the workshop, the whole group was divided into seven subgroups. Together with VVOB’s expert - Dr. Le Huy Hoang from Hanoi National University of Education - each subgroup was responsible for the delivering of a certain topic. In this way, participants actually tried out delivering part of the content that they would have to multiply later. The workshop was evaluated as successful; participants really liked the way it was facilitated. As about the training material, though there were details which should be revised or elaborated a bit more, the feedback from participants in general was quite positive.

This is the second topic expected to be multiplied to teachers from Lower Secondary Schools (the first topic is ICT 4 ATL). While the material is now in the process of being edited and finalized to be printed out by the middle of August, DOETs have planned to organize multiplication workshops to about 2.850 teachers in 75 districts in the five provinces in the period from the end of August to the mid of October.

For the last half day, the core group worked together to discuss and give input for the manual Soft Skills for School managers. This is the second training workshop on this big topic, emphasizing Communication Skills for managers, Management of the Education of Life Skills and Life Values, following the first training also on Soft Skills for School managers which was organized in November 2010 and which addressed Coaching, Change management and Leadership for Professional Management. The manual is now in the process of being developed and the TOT workshop on Soft Skills for School managers 2 will be organized by the end of September.
