In order to improve the collaboration - on activities in the framework of the Child-friendly movement - between Department of Education and Training (DoET) and Women’s Union (WU) VVOB organized field trips to the five program provinces.

From 12 – 16 September 2011VVOB coordinators, PPU members from the DoETs and WUs and member of BoETs made visits in Nghe An and Quang Ngai provinces.

Participants had the chance to visit lower secondary schools, multiplication trainings and parent club’s regular activity. The goal was for PPU members of both institutions to gain better understanding of each other’s focused activities, i.e. WU comprehend DoET’s implementation of ATL process in schools while DoET appreciate the involvement of WU in mobilizing community participation in education.

WU’s initiative – “Education and Life” club – is highly appreciated by members of DoET and BoET. “I know there has been a good model of social participation in Xuan Hoa commune which is run by WU. In fact students’ performance in Xuan Hoa commune has been improved much thanks to parents’ increased awareness of their support to children’s learning" said Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, head of BoET of Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.

Mr. Huynh Hau, DoET’s PPU member of Quang Ngai province promised to encourage representatives of lower secondary schools to collaborate with Commune Education Support Boards (CESBs) through issuing an official document letter addressing schools in the communities where the clubs are running.

During the field trip, the club members and PPU members also shared information on:

  • Innovative approach of children education, especially the adolescents based on children-rights
  • Support children active learning at home
  • Teaching life skills in school and in the community - progress and challenges.

Such information will serve as a baseline for the upcoming ToT on “Life skills for youth”, which will be implemented by VVOB in late 2011 and early 2012.
