A delegation of the Science, Environmental and Agricultural Life programme (SEAL) of VVOB Cambodia, consisting of Ms. Sokhany Nget, Mr. Stefaan Vande Walle and Mr. David Dionys, paid a visit to VVOB Vietnam from 12 to 15 December in the context of the Community of Practice Reaching Out Towards Others (ROTO) Vietnam/Cambodia. The Community of Practice is a new platform adopted in the beginning of this year by VVOB globally to facilitate intra-organisational learning through action research, joint participation in activities, workshops and cross-country exchange.

During the 4-day visit, the colleagues from Cambodia gained insight in VVOB Vietnam’s education programme on Active Teaching and Learning: its structure, partners and implementation approach, and the participatory M&E system as well. While visiting different partners in Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh provinces, they had the opportunity to meet the different operational partners and learned more about the work of the core groups on ICT and teaching methodologies at Teacher Training Institutes, the in-service teacher training approach of the provincial Departments of Education and Training (DOETs), the Education and Life Clubs promoting the link between school and parents, facilitated by Women’s Union, and the support to ATL during teaching practice at schools.

The Cambodian colleagues understand better the focus on process guidance of the Vietnamese team and the strong ownership it creates with partners. This study visit in the context of a COP with a focus on teacher training, offered the occasion for reflection on the entire programme and provided food for thought for the formulation of future programmes as well.
