On March 14-17, 2012, VVOB organized a ToT workshop on Life skills and gender equality for 24 participants of Provincial and District Women's Unions of five provinces.

This is the second time a workshop on life skills for adolescents was organized yet first time the subject also included gender equality in career guidance. The workshop provided an insight on life skills and how parents can convey these skills to their children despite possible differences in values and beliefs between the two generations.

The workshop focused on several necessary life skills for children such as communication and interpersonal skills (active listening, positive feedback, self-defense), decision making/problem solving skills, coping and self-management skills (self-esteem/confidence building skills, self-awareness skills. The workshop also provided participants with gender mainstreaming in parenting skills and career orientation for children. Various participatory methods such as group discussion, brainstorming, role playing, case study, active presentation, drawing, etc. were used and the outcomes were a.o. visible in the trees of life-values developed by participants.

Though there were some newcomers due to personnel changes at district level, they were soon part of the group, thanks to, according to their testimony, the friendly and dynamic atmosphere, the active participation in every session and the useful content of the workshop.

The participants will be the key persons to multiply the trainings at district and commune levels. Multiplication workshops for districts and communes are expected to start in quarter 2/2012.

A handbook on life skills for adolescents will be printed out in May 2012
