DOET and WU from 5 provinces attended the consultation workshop “Improving the links among family, school and society” from April 2 to April 4 in Hue City.

Social participation is one of the core topics addressed by VVOB Vietnam and the two partners who can really promote the link among family, school and society are Departments of Education and Trainings (DoETs) and Women’s Unions (WU). Taking this factor into account, the consultation workshop aims for a general consensus of the outline of the material “Improving the links among family, school and community”.

46 participants came from WUs at provincial, district and commune levels, as well as DoETs, selected BoETs, and schools of different communes with “Life and Education Club” model. This is the first time managers and officers from the education sector and the WUs have such an opportunity to sit together to:

  • disscuss and agree on the concepts of socialization in education promulgated by MOET;
  • analyse strength and weaknesses of socialization of education in the locality in general and the links among family, school, and communities at the local level (through reflection on VVOB supported and non-VVOB supported models);
  • look for solutions to stengthen the links;
  • develop guidelines (for schools and communities) for the purpose of mobilizing social participation in education

These discussions and sharing of ideas have generated a lot of input for the material “Improving the links among family, school and society”. These guidelines will be introduced to the core group of trainers of DOET and WU and disseminated to all school managers in the five provinces. A possible scenario would be that DoETs officially recognise (and institutionalise) the club model for its contribution to strengthening the Child-friendly movement. A review meeting to assess the club model effectiveness is planned for 2013.
