A group of 14 people including directors and senior management staff of teacher training institutes in Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai traveled to the Republic of Korea for a study visit from 31 October to 6 November 2010. They were accompanied by the VVOB coordinators of the teacher training programme and a senior expert of the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) co-organized the study visit and coordinated the visits in and around Seoul. Objective of the study visit was to show case best practices related to different parts of the VVOB education programme in an advanced Asian context. The experiences in Korea are expected to provide direction and inspiration to the participants for the development and implementation of their yearly Education Innovation Plans. The Education Innovation Plans, which were initiated in 2010, following the earlier Technology Development Plans, are the backbone of the cooperation between VVOB and its partner institutes.

The proof of the pudding is the tasting, so part of the success of this study visit will be demonstrated by the forthcoming Education Innovation Plans in 2011. The participants showed a strong interest during the visits and highly valued the entire programme in terms of relevance for the work of their institutes. The study visit also allowed to share experiences between Vietnamese and Korean peers and to learn from and to respect each other’s culture. Education for International Understanding, which is promoted by APCEIU in the pursuit of a Culture of Peace, was in that sense put into practice during the visit.
